Foreign Investment in Bahrain: Setup and Licensing
Sijilat registration, foreign ownership rules and entity forms for investors entering Bahrain.
Foreign investment in Bahrain
The firm covers Bahrain matters in cooperation with a partner office in the Kingdom of Bahrain. That partner office is not a branch owned by the firm, and the firm does not itself hold a Bahrain law practice license; local licensing and representation are assessed for each matter in the Kingdom. Commercial registration in Bahrain runs through the Sijilat portal of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. Bahrain allows full foreign ownership in most sectors, which makes it a common entry point into the Gulf.
Entity forms
Under the Commercial Companies Law (Legislative Decree No. 21 of 2001, as amended), common forms include the limited liability company (WLL), the Bahraini shareholding company (BSC) and branches of foreign companies. The right form depends on the activity, the ownership structure and how the business will actually operate.
Approvals and how we work
We map the ownership, the activity and the approvals before filing, then sequence registrations with our partner office in the Kingdom. A commercial registration alone does not answer sector or operational permit questions. For the incorporation detail see Company Formation in Bahrain; for the wider practice see General Commercial & Corporate; to scope a project, contact our team.
MENA coordination
The firm was founded in Kuwait in 1986 and has a branch in Cairo. It covers MENA matters in cooperation with partner offices in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar, and partner offices in Turkey and the United States. Those partner offices are not branches owned by the firm; local licensing and advice are assessed in the relevant jurisdiction.
