Energy & Natural Resources

Legal advice on energy and natural resources projects: align site rights, permits, metering and delivery terms, and manage change and closure risk.

Start with the physical project

Identify the site, operator, counterparties, permitted activity and resource or supply point. Compare concession, property and supply agreements with maps, permits, environmental records and actual field practice. Rights for one location or phase should not be assumed to cover a changed site, technology or expansion.

Make delivery and price testable

Specify where output is measured and accepted, who maintains meters, how quality is checked and which records decide a discrepancy. A price or volume formula is useful only when both sides can obtain its inputs and correct errors. Connect these operational steps to notice and payment terms rather than leaving them in a separate technical schedule.

Allocate disruption and change risk

Construction delay, access limits, maintenance, contractor failure or environmental conditions can interrupt supply. Read construction, operating, insurance and supplier documents together. Name who records disruption, approves changes, mitigates loss and restarts work. Keep dated drawings, approvals and measurements for each material shift, including closure or decommissioning. Current legal duties must be checked for the specific project and jurisdiction.
