Dispute Resolution & Arbitration in Oman
Dispute resolution and arbitration in the Sultanate of Oman, in cooperation with a partner office in Oman.
Dispute resolution work in Oman
The firm covers Oman matters in cooperation with a partner office in the Sultanate of Oman. That partner office is not a branch owned by the firm, and the firm does not itself hold an Oman law practice license; local licensing and representation are assessed for each matter in the Sultanate. Within that framework, we coordinate pre-litigation assessment, negotiation, arbitration support and litigation strategy for Oman-connected disputes; filings and court appearances in the Sultanate are handled by locally licensed counsel through the partner office.
Courts and litigation in Oman
Commercial cases are heard by the Omani courts operating under the Supreme Judicial Council, with the commercial court circuits hearing company and trade disputes. Court proceedings in Oman are conducted in Arabic, so case files, contracts and evidence need to be prepared with translation and certification requirements in mind.
Arbitration in Oman
Arbitration in civil and commercial disputes is governed by the Law of Arbitration in Civil and Commercial Disputes issued by Royal Decree No. 47/97, as amended by Royal Decree No. 3/2007. The Oman Commercial Arbitration Centre (OAC), operating under the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, administers institutional arbitration in the Sultanate. Oman is a contracting state to the 1958 New York Convention.
Before a dispute is filed
We start from the record: the signed contracts, notices, invoices and correspondence, and the jurisdiction or arbitration clause that will control where the case is heard. From that base we assess the claims and enforcement prospects and run negotiation where a settlement serves the client better than a judgment. MENA coordination
The firm was founded in Kuwait in 1986 and has a branch in Cairo. It covers MENA matters in cooperation with partner offices in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar, and partner offices in Turkey and the United States. Those partner offices are not branches owned by the firm; local licensing and advice are assessed in the relevant jurisdiction.
