Dispute resolution work in Egypt
Our Cairo branch handles disputes for local and international clients in Egypt: pre-litigation assessment, negotiation and settlement, arbitration, and litigation before Egyptian courts. Because the Cairo branch is staffed with licensed Egyptian lawyers, court appearances in Egypt are handled directly by the branch, while arbitration and cross-border coordination are run from Cairo together with the firm's Kuwait head office.
Egyptian courts and procedure
Civil and commercial litigation in Egypt is governed by the Civil and Commercial Procedures Code promulgated by Law No. 13 of 1968. The Economic Courts, established under Law No. 120 of 2008, hear specified commercial disputes - including companies, banking, capital-market and intellectual-property matters - with electronic filing and case management. Appeals in ordinary civil matters run through the courts of appeal, with points of law before the Court of Cassation.
Arbitration in Egypt
Arbitration in civil and commercial matters is governed by Law No. 27 of 1994, modelled on the UNCITRAL Model Law. The Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA) administers institutional cases under its own rules, and ad hoc arbitration under the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules is common. Egypt is a contracting state to the 1958 New York Convention, and Law No. 27 of 1994 sets the framework for recognition and enforcement of awards before the Egyptian courts.
Before a dispute is filed
We start from the record: the signed contracts, notices, invoices and correspondence, and the jurisdiction or arbitration clause that will control where the case is heard. From that base we assess the claims, limitation periods and enforcement prospects, and we run negotiation or mediation where a settlement serves the client better than a judgment. MENA coordination
The firm was founded in Kuwait in 1986 and has a branch in Cairo. It covers MENA matters in cooperation with partner offices in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar, and partner offices in Turkey and the United States. Those partner offices are not branches owned by the firm; local licensing and advice are assessed in the relevant jurisdiction.
