Before calling a project sustainable, ask what exactly was measured and against which baseline. A broad claim is hard to defend when the site boundary, period or method is unclear.
Define the project boundary
Identify sites, activities, contractors and the reporting period.
Collect source records
Organize permits, measurements, methods, invoices and supplier evidence.
Check claims against data
Separate measured results from plans and estimates; record assumptions and limitations.
Assign review and updates
Set owners for approvals, corrections and changes when facts or rules change.
A lower energy bill, for instance, does not by itself show lower emissions if the occupied space or energy mix changed. Keep the measurement method and its limits alongside the claim.
